This Privacy Policy explains how SpeakLoop (“SpeakLoop,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, discloses, and protects information in connection with the SpeakLoop mobile application (the “App”) and related services (the “Service”). SpeakLoop is a speech-practice app used by children under the account and supervision of a parent or legal guardian.
We are committed to protecting the privacy of children and complying with the U.S. Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (“COPPA”), the EU General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”) (including provisions relating to children), the UK GDPR, and other applicable children’s privacy laws.
1. Who This Policy Applies To
SpeakLoop accounts are created and controlled by a parent or legal guardian (“Parent,” “you”). Children access the Service only through a Child Profile created by a Parent within the Parent’s account. This Policy describes what we collect from Parents and, separately and with more protective handling, what we collect through Child Profiles.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information From Parents (Account Holders)
- Account information: name, email address, and authentication identifiers when you sign up or sign in (including via Sign in with Apple or Sign in with Google).
- Consent records: records of the parental consents you grant or deny for each Child Profile (e.g., consent to voice recording, data storage, or progress reports), including the date and type of consent.
- Billing information: if you purchase a Subscription, the app store (Apple App Store or Google Play) processes payment details. We do not receive or store your full payment card information; we receive limited purchase/subscription status data via RevenueCat.
- Support communications: information you provide when you contact us for support.
2.2 Information From Child Profiles
With verifiable parental consent, we collect the following limited information necessary to operate the Service for a Child Profile:
- Profile information: a first name or nickname, an avatar/character selection, and age range or grade level, as provided by the Parent.
- Voice recordings: audio of the Child’s spoken responses during practice exercises, used to evaluate pronunciation and provide feedback.
- Usage and progress data: exercises completed, scores, streaks, session duration, and progress over time, used to generate in-app feedback and weekly reports for the Parent.
- Device and diagnostic data: limited technical data (such as app version, device type, and crash logs) necessary to operate and troubleshoot the Service.
We do not knowingly collect from children: precise geolocation, contact lists, photos of the child, government identifiers, or any information beyond what is reasonably necessary for the Child to participate in the practice activity.
2.3 Information We Do Not Collect From Children Directly
Children cannot create their own account, cannot independently register, and are not asked to provide personal information such as an email address, phone number, or physical address. Any information associated with a Child Profile is provided and controlled by the Parent.
3. How We Use Information
We use the information described above to:
- provide, operate, and maintain the Service, including Child Profiles and speech-practice exercises;
- evaluate spoken responses (via on-device or cloud-based speech recognition) to provide feedback and track progress;
- generate progress reports and streaks for Parents to review;
- authenticate users and secure accounts;
- process and manage Subscriptions and purchases;
- respond to support requests;
- maintain the safety, security, and integrity of the Service;
- comply with legal obligations.
We do not use information collected from Child Profiles for behavioral advertising, and we do not build advertising profiles of children. We do not sell children’s personal information.
4. Parental Consent
4.1 Before we collect, use, or disclose personal information from a Child Profile (such as enabling voice recording or generating reports), we obtain verifiable parental consent through the Parent account, consistent with COPPA requirements.
4.2 You may review the specific information collected from your Child, revoke consent, and request deletion of your Child’s information at any time through the App’s Settings (Consent & Privacy) or by contacting us at the address in Section 11.
4.3 If you revoke consent for a data use, we will disable the corresponding feature for that Child Profile and, where applicable, delete previously collected data associated with that consent, except where retention is required by law.
5. How We Share Information
We do not sell personal information. We share information only as follows:
- Service providers acting on our behalf, under contractual confidentiality and data-protection obligations, including:
- Supabase — backend database, authentication, and secure data storage.
- RevenueCat — subscription and in-app purchase management.
- Apple / Google — sign-in authentication and app store purchase processing.
- Legal and safety reasons — to comply with applicable law, respond to lawful requests, or protect the rights, safety, or property of SpeakLoop, our users, or the public.
- Business transfers — if SpeakLoop is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this Policy or a policy at least as protective of children’s data.
We do not share Child Profile data with third parties for their own marketing or advertising purposes.
6. Data Retention
We retain Parent account information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Service. We retain Child Profile information only as long as necessary to provide the Service and consistent with the consents you have granted. If you delete your account or a Child Profile, we delete or anonymize the associated personal information within a reasonable period, except where we are required to retain it for legal, security, or fraud-prevention purposes.
7. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
- access, correct, or delete personal information we hold about you or your Child;
- withdraw consent for the collection or use of your Child’s information;
- object to or restrict certain processing;
- request a copy of your data in a portable format;
- lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
To exercise these rights, contact us using the details in Section 11. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law.
California residents: SpeakLoop does not sell or “share” personal information as defined under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), and we do not knowingly sell children’s personal information.
EEA/UK residents: Where GDPR applies, our legal bases for processing include your consent, performance of a contract with you, compliance with legal obligations, and our legitimate interests in operating and securing the Service.
8. Data Security
We use industry-standard technical and organizational measures — including encryption in transit, access controls, and secure cloud infrastructure — to protect personal information from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. International Data Transfers
Our service providers may process and store information in countries other than your own. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) to protect information transferred internationally.
10. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes — particularly changes affecting how we collect or use children’s information — we will notify Parents through the App or by email before the changes take effect, and, where required, seek renewed consent.
