Welcome to SpeakLoop (“SpeakLoop,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the SpeakLoop mobile application (the “App”) and related services (collectively, the “Service”). SpeakLoop is a daily speech-practice app for children, guided by a parrot mascot, and is designed to be used by children under the account and supervision of a parent or legal guardian.
By creating an account, downloading, or using the App, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. Who May Use SpeakLoop
1.1 Parent Accounts. SpeakLoop accounts may only be created and held by a parent, legal guardian, or another adult authorized to consent on behalf of a child (“Parent,” “you”). You must be at least 18 years old (or the age of majority in your jurisdiction) to create an account.
1.2 Child Profiles. Once you create a Parent account, you may set up one or more child profiles (“Child Profile”) within your account for use by your child (“Child”). Children do not create their own accounts, do not directly provide personal information to us to register, and access the Service only through a Child Profile created and managed by their Parent.
1.3 Parental Responsibility. By creating a Child Profile, you represent that you are the parent or legal guardian of the child (or otherwise legally authorized to consent on the child’s behalf), and you consent to the collection, use, and processing of the Child’s information as described in our Privacy Policy. You are responsible for supervising your child’s use of the Service.
2. The Service
SpeakLoop provides guided speech and pronunciation practice exercises for children, including audio recording and playback, progress tracking, streaks and rewards, and weekly progress reports for Parents. Certain features may use on-device or cloud-based speech recognition to evaluate a child’s spoken responses.
3. Accounts and Security
3.1 You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account.
3.2 You agree to provide accurate information when creating your account and to keep it up to date.
3.3 You must notify us promptly at the contact address below if you become aware of any unauthorized use of your account.
3.4 You may sign in using email and password, Sign in with Apple, or Sign in with Google. Your use of those third-party sign-in methods is also subject to the respective provider’s terms.
4. Parental Consent and Controls
4.1 SpeakLoop is built to comply with applicable children’s privacy laws, including the U.S. Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (“COPPA”) and, where applicable, the EU/UK data protection rules relating to children’s data.
4.2 Certain features of the Service (such as voice recording, storage of a Child’s audio or progress data, or generation of progress reports) require your verifiable consent before they are enabled for a Child Profile. We will ask you to grant or deny this consent, and you may withdraw consent at any time in the App’s Settings or by contacting us.
4.3 You may, at any time: (a) review the personal information collected from your Child; (b) request that we delete your Child’s personal information; (c) refuse to permit further collection or use of your Child’s information; and (d) delete a Child Profile entirely. See our Privacy Policy for how to exercise these rights.
4.4 We do not condition a Child’s participation in an activity on the Child disclosing more personal information than is reasonably necessary for that activity.
5. Acceptable Use
You agree not to, and not to permit any Child using your account to:
- use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of these Terms;
- attempt to access another user’s account or Child Profile without authorization;
- upload or transmit content that is abusive, harmful, or infringes the rights of others;
- reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the App, except as permitted by law;
- interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the Service;
- use automated means (bots, scrapers) to access the Service.
6. User Content
6.1 “User Content” means audio recordings, voice samples, and other content submitted through a Child Profile as part of speech practice exercises.
6.2 You retain ownership of User Content. By submitting User Content, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide license to store, process, and analyze it solely to provide and improve the Service (for example, evaluating pronunciation and generating progress reports), consistent with our Privacy Policy.
6.3 We do not use Child voice recordings for advertising, marketing, or to train models for purposes unrelated to providing the Service to you, except as otherwise disclosed in the Privacy Policy or with your separate, explicit consent.
7. Subscriptions and Purchases
7.1 SpeakLoop may offer free features and optional paid subscriptions (“Subscription”) that unlock additional content or features.
7.2 Subscriptions are billed through the applicable app store (Apple App Store or Google Play) and are subject to that platform’s payment terms. Pricing, billing cycles, and renewal terms will be presented to you before purchase.
7.3 Subscriptions automatically renew unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage or cancel your Subscription through your Apple ID or Google Play account settings.
7.4 Refunds are handled by the applicable app store in accordance with its refund policies. We do not directly process payments or refunds.
7.5 We may offer free trials. If you do not cancel before the trial ends, you may be charged for the Subscription.
8. Intellectual Property
8.1 The Service, including its design, text, graphics, the SpeakLoop parrot mascot, logos, and software, is owned by us or our licensors and is protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.
8.2 We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the App for your personal, non-commercial use in accordance with these Terms.
9. Third-Party Services
The Service relies on third-party providers to operate, including cloud infrastructure and authentication (Supabase), subscription management (RevenueCat), and platform sign-in services (Apple, Google). These providers process data on our behalf as described in our Privacy Policy. We are not responsible for the independent practices of app stores or platform providers.
10. Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. SPEAKLOOP IS AN EDUCATIONAL PRACTICE TOOL AND IS NOT A MEDICAL, THERAPEUTIC, OR DIAGNOSTIC DEVICE. IT IS NOT A SUBSTITUTE FOR PROFESSIONAL SPEECH-LANGUAGE PATHOLOGY EVALUATION OR TREATMENT. IF YOU HAVE CONCERNS ABOUT YOUR CHILD’S SPEECH OR LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT, CONSULT A QUALIFIED PROFESSIONAL.
11. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, SPEAKLOOP AND ITS OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING FROM THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM, OR TEN U.S. DOLLARS (USD $10), WHICHEVER IS GREATER.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages, so some of the above limitations may not apply to you.
12. Termination
12.1 You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time through the App’s Settings or by contacting us.
12.2 We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service if you violate these Terms, misuse the Service, or if required by law.
12.3 Upon termination, Sections 8, 10, 11, 13, and 14 will survive.
13. Governing Law and Disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which SpeakLoop is established, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, except where mandatory consumer protection or children’s privacy laws of your country of residence apply. Any dispute arising from these Terms will be resolved in the courts of that jurisdiction, unless applicable law requires otherwise.
14. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the App or by other reasonable means before the changes take effect. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
